Welcome to my blog in 2023. Yup haven’t posted all month, sorry. Anyways, as we go into the New Year I will be using my blog specifically for testimonies of the Lord working in my life. The traditional complete life and brain dump will come once a month to your email, so if you didn’t receive the January email newsletter please reach out so I can get you that one and then get you on the list to receive the February newsletter. Oh, and welcome to South Africa.
In this season of my life the Lord has spoke to me more and more in visions, pictures, and art. As a naturally unartistic person this is fairly new. With this I’ve developed a journal full of all the Lord shows me and is revealing to me which is so helpful. As I thought about the past week and a half or so on what the Lord had been doing I was overwhelmed, there was so much. It was a ton of little things, and none stuck out, but instead a pattern.
So as I’ve shared with some the word the Lord has given me for this season is Afresh. To be honest I have no idea what that looks like and I think that’s the point, but the Lord has shown me that he will show me this. He is calling me into nature. Calling me into the garden. Not the garden I’ve been to before. Not my garden back in Woodland Park outside my bedroom window. Not the garden of eden. For Isaiah 61:11 says: “For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.” We are the garden. Not just in the ways that we are pruned, or the way that we can bloom with the fruits of the spirit either. We have the opportunity to carry the full beauty of a garden. We can be rest for others, they can see the fullness of God in our joy and our love. They can see our growth and our maturity in the spirit. They can also see that in new seasons we return back to the roots. We return back to just the soil. A soil that is now richer, more full of nutrients because of the growth that has happened there before. This is the season I’m in. As a start to what is a new season for me I find myself back down at the soil. It feels empty. It feels like I’ve lost the fullness of the Lord I just got to know. But the beauty is because of the growth in Christ I had before, nitrogen fixation has taken place, and I find myself in rich soil. Soil that is so suitable to grow that I’m potentially too excited to grow up out of this place.
So in this week I was able to sit in gardens, see this very thing taking place. I was able to pick grapes off of the vine and see how long it took to produce such a beautiful fruit. However, my favorite part of the week was shoveling soil. Laying the foundation for what is going to be a composting center. How ironic right. I was literally leveling a foundation for a place dedicated to strengthening the soil for better plant growth, while the Lord was doing the same in my heart. It sucks to feel like a seed while those around you look like great vines. But the Kingdom of the Lord isn’t one of comparison and process of composting is every bit as sweet as the grape at the end of the vine.
So my prayer for all of you this week is that the Lord would spread his rich compost over you. So that you would not grow back the same, but grow back new, afresh.
Luke 1:80- “And the child grew and became strong in spirit”referring to John the Baptist.
Luke 2:52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Great Biblical examples growing in the presence of God. Keep on keeping on Derek.
We continue to pray daily for you and your team. Be strong and courageous. Love Granny

Hi Derek! Love your post! One of my favorite places in the world are gardens, because I have also learned so much about who I am in God through “garden lessons”. Your quote “sucks to feel like a seed while those around you look like vines”…. is a great concept for me to think on. Oh how easily I can compare myself! Thank God He’s a good Father who loves us individually and unconditionally, even when I might get stuck in the “seed” stage longer than I’d like to be. Thanks for sharing all of this, Derek! Praying for you and Selah!!
